Alan Hunter, MB FRCS, Consultant Surgeon. Qualified: Kings College London. Born May 1930, East Ham, London to Harry and Jesse Tooley. Passed away Sunday 11th November 2012, Cosham, Hampshire aged 82 years. Former Chairman of the Court of Examiners, Royal College of Surgeons (England and Wales), Honorary Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (FGCS). Alan's spirit rose releasing him, he was free, free to run and enjoy eternal life. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, it is comforting to know he was always surrounded by his close family, loved ones and dear friends who over his illness, we thank for their support and comfort they have given to us all. Dad loved life and lived it to the full, we celebrate all he did and the difference he was able to make to so many people. He was strong and determined to be with us all, he remained with a sense of humour and an active brain (and the Daily Telegraph Crossword). He leaves, in body only, his wonderful spirit lives on. His love and big heart will never fade nor his love and grateful support of his companion Jose and his best friend John (together they have shared many fancies 'n' frolics). Of course, not forgetting his many friends and colleagues, all of whom, can also treasure marvellous times and memories; together we must all celebrate his life as he would want us to do. Many patients owe their health and longevity to him too, he was proud of his achievements, as are we all. Although sadly missed, he will always be the beloved father to twins Elizabeth and Fiona. His special son Timothy (who has achieved so much, which he was so rightly proud of) and also a much loved grandfather to Vanessa-Jayne. He will continue to watch over us all and may he rest in eternal peace knowing he will always be loved by so many close friends in particular Jose, John and Mary. Life will be tough at first, but memories will comfort us in those darker days and bring sunshine into our thoughts - he has left a strong legacy and we will do him proud. Keep those happy thoughts and remember - "A day without laughter is a day wasted". Celebration of Life, the Funeral Service and Committal will be held on Monday 26th November 2012 at 1 p.m. at Portchester Crematorium, Upper Cornaway Lane, Portchester, Hampshire, PO16 8NE. Family flowers only please: Donations towards Alan's legacy charities can be made c/o Barrells The Funeral Directors Limited, London Road, Waterlooville, Hampshire 44 (0)23 9282 4831.
